About Us

Ian Proctor
Ian—fulltime farm manager
Firmly believes in a holistic approach to alpaca manage-
ment.  Rotating paddocks, nurturing the pasture.

Ian and Cathy Proctor run Wallaby Ridge Suri Alpacas, an alpaca stud focused on breeding finely fleeced lustrous coloured suri alpacas.

Since its beginning in August 1995, Wallaby Ridge has been breeding for solid black—initially solid black huacayas, but after experiencing the silken magic of the suri fleece the breeding program has been firmly biased to suris.

The Wallaby Ridge herd (approximately 75) is predominantly coloured suris in a myriad of colours, grey, rose grey, black, rich mahogany, gold and white.  Huacaya females are almost exclusively mated to suri sires, giving progeny in a broad range of colours. Herdsires are selected with great care to complement the females.  Lustre, micron and conformation are of paramount importance.

The Proctors have both been proactive in education and research to aid in managing the herd.  Ian is currently undertaking wool classing at Tafe, has completed an Internal Parasites Management course and then run this course as coordinator for alpaca owners. He also has previously completed sheep fertility and managing the flock subjects.

Cathy has completed Vet Nursing at Tafe, worked as a vetnostics technician, completed the Alpaca Production Course as well as the Internal Parasites course.
